このビデオのアクセス数を見ると480万回を超えています。(今は2900万回になっていました。2016年10月23日）

イギリスのシンガーソングライターRobert Palmer（19 January 1949- 26 September 2003）がこのプロモーションビデオをきっかけにアメリカのヒットチャートを駆け上った、記念碑的ビデオということらしい。

“Addicted To Love”は1986年のビルボードヒットチャートでトップをとっています。（Wikipedia（En）Robert Palmer） この曲はTina Turnerもカバーして、ヒットしているようです。

“Addicted To Love”の納められた『Riptide』発表前に、デュラン・デュランのJohn Taylerのセカンドバンド、パワーステーションでボーカルを担当し、評判になっていたのだそうですが、パワーステーションとしてのライブ活動には参加せず、ヒットまでには至らず、というところだったのだそうです。

同じビデオメンバーで作製された”I Didn’t Mean to Turn You On”もヒットチャート2位まで昇ったそうですが、曲としては余り面白い感じはしません。

1988年に発表した下記の”Simply Irresistible”ではさらにバックの女性陣をパワーアップしています。これも220万回を超えるアクセスですが、ちょっとやり過ぎで2番煎じの感じは否めません。

“Addicted To Love”の黒の衣裳と、きつめの化粧、冷たい、笑わずに、視線を外しているバックの女性達のシンプルな衝撃度には及ばない気がします。

Robert PalmerもYou Tubeで始めて聴いて良いなと思ったのですが、最初に良いなと思ったのはブルースを彷徨っているとき聴いた下記の”Milkcow’s Calf Blues” でした。

その次が”Spanish Moon”というところで、 “Addicted To Love”は大分後に、どちらかというと視覚と合わせてじわじわお気に入りになったというところです。

Robert Palmerは2003年9月にパリ滞在中に亡くなります。心臓発作だったのだそうです。

グラミー賞の期間中に亡くなったWhitney Houstonからコカイン検出か？というニュースがありました。

前に黙祷・・・で書いたのですが、繊細なアーティスト達がドラッグ、酒に頼ってしまうことが多い様ですが、Robert Palmerはヘビースモーカであったとの記述がありましたが、ドラッグには縁がなかったようです。
