自分の中のブラッド・スウェット＆ティアーズはアル・クーパーだけなので、1枚目、しかもアル・クーパーのボーカルの曲だけで終わっています。特にこの曲はたまらないのです。
前に書きましたが、スティーブ・ウィンウッドになにか共通するものを感じます。
声量はウィンウッドの方があると思うのですが高音で張り上げる唄い方、キーボードがメイン、作曲もこなす。自分のスタイルを保った音楽姿勢・・・みたいな感じです。
と言いつつ、アル・クーパーについてあまり知らないので、文末に載せているWikipedia の英語版に沿って、ちょっと勉強させてもらいます。
1944年ニューヨーク、ブルックリンの生まれ、ギタリストとして音楽人生が始まるが、1960年にゲーリー・ルイスとプレイボーイに下記の”This Diamond Ring”を書き、ヒット・・・という事は16歳でヒットメーカーになったということか・・・
1965年、66年にボブ・ディランの公演、レコーディングでハモンドオルガンを担当。”Like A Rolling Stone”のオルガンはアル・クーパーなのだそうです。
一方、同じく1965年にブルース・プロジェクトにキーボード奏者として参加。間もなく脱退し、1967年、ブラッド・スウェット＆ティアーズを結成する。
自ら結成したブラッド・スウェット＆ティアーズも一枚目のアルバムで他のメンバーと意見対立し、一人脱退してしまいます。離合集散を繰り返す、孤高の人と言う感じで、どこかの元代表に負けない勢いです。
マイケル・ブルームフィールド、スティーブン・スティルスとのスーパーセッションの後、一定のグループに属さず、色々な人とセッションし、ストーンズ、BBキング、ジミ・ヘンドリックス、フーそしてクリームなどのバックで多くのレコーディングに参加します。
そして1972年、アトランタに来たアル・クーパーはLynyrd Skynyrdを見出し、彼らの最初の三枚のアルバムをプロデュースします。
アルとレーナード・スキナードって随分音楽の種類が違うような気がしましたが、自分の大好きな二人のボーカリストがコラボしていたなんて・・・嬉しくなります。
